(tampabays10.com)- This week, One Lucky Dog, a pet boutique in St. Petersburg, posted a message on their marquis along 4th Street North.

"Free mohawk with grooming," it reads.

Since then, several pet owners have set up appointments to get their dogs Rayhawked, including Amy Williams.

"I saw that they were giving free mohawks for the Rays, so I said, 'Of course we want a mohawk!'"

Williams brought her puppy, Toby, for the quick cut.

Doggie Rayhawks are free with grooming at One Lucky Dog. They're $15 to $20 without a groom.

Mayor Baker Recognized with National Award
(baynew9.com)-
St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker has been honored with a national award.

Selected from a field of more than 20,000, Baker was selected as Mayor of the Year by Governing Magazine.

Baker says his award is really a tribute to the city and the people who made it what it is long before he took office.

"I like to describe it as St. Pete's in the midst of a 25-year overnight success," he said.

According to the magazine, since Baker took office, the downtown area has experienced the greatest renaissance in its history.

The publication's annual award edition recognizes eight public officials of the year. Baker, who has been mayor since 2001, won every precinct in his bid for re-election in 2005 by a 70 percent margin.

The magazine said Baker has led a number of initiatives that have become models for excellence and garnered national and international recognition.

Baker told the magazine he was honored and thankful for the opportunity to be mayor.

Charity Yard Sale
(tbo.com)- Members of the Bell Shoals Baptist Church middle school youth group have been furiously poring through dresser drawers, digging around in closets and hunting in corners of garages, hoping to uncover hidden treasures.

If their efforts pay off, they can help pay medical expenses incurred by the mother of their friend, 13-year-old Savannah Brantley, a student at Mulrennan Middle School.

The bills continue to pile up since Brooke Longwell Brantley, 34, of Valrico, underwent a life-saving bone marrow transplant in January. She was diagnosed in 2006 with acute myelogenous leukemia, a fast-growing cancer of the blood and bone marrow.

WHAT:
Yard sale to help cover Brooke Longwell Brantley's medical bills

WHEN: 7 a.m. to noon Saturday

WHERE: 2549 Arborwood Drive, off Miller Road between State Road 60 and Lithia-Pinecrest Road

DONATIONS: New or gently used items may be dropped off today from 5 to 7 p.m.; money and gift cards can be dropped off during those hours or at the yard sale.

FOR INFORMATION: Call (813) 679-7787.

When Flipper Attacks
(AP)- A woman is recovering in Florida after a dolphin hit her when it leaped aboard the boat she was in.

The Coast Guard says witnesses called 911 Thursday after seeing the dolphin jump from the Intracoastal Waterway and hit Barbara Howard of Mansfield, Ohio. Howard was sitting in an 18-foot boat with her husband, their daughter and their daughter's boyfriend.

The Howards say the dolphin jumped about six feet high and landed on the bow. They say it slid in their laps and its thrashing tail knocked them to the deck. Their daughter's boyfriend rolled the dolphin back into the water.

The husband and wife were treated at a hospital for cuts and bruises and released.

Forget Locusts
(tampabays10.com)- Researches from the University of Florida warn a variety of new roach species could soon invade the state.

Dr. Phillip Koehler of UF's Department of Entomology says more and more people are ordering exotic roach species over the internet to feed their lizards and other reptilian pets.

Roaches are easier to bread and less expensive than crickets, a more traditional food for pet.

There are state laws that prohibit the importation of certain non native insects, but those rules are often difficult to enforce.

Among the species scientists predict to see, the "hissing cockroach" from Madagascar. The insect can grow up to three inches long and can be purchased over the internet for just $2.00.

"People importing cockroaches from other parts of the world and those things could get loose and cause significant problems that we haven't ever dealt with before," says Dr. Koehler.

He an assistant professor Roberto Pereira wrote an article about the issue in last month's "Florida Pest Pro Magazine."

The two say within one year of an escape, a new breed of cockroach could establish itself in a specific geographic area. It would then be another 10 years before it could spread across the rest of the state.

Dr. Koehler said he thought the "Hissing Cockroach" would do especially well in Florida because of Florida's warm, tropical like climate.

A Blues Brother Coming to Town
Dan Aykroyd has launched Dan Aykroyd Wines in his native
Canada last year. Now he's debuting another spirited beverage, Crystal Head Vodka. He'll spend Friday evening on a promotional junket through Tampa Bay.

The quadruple-distilled vodka is made in Newfoundland and comes in a 750-milliliter skull-shaped bottle. Early next year, Crystal Head Vodka will retail in a more traditional bottle for $49.99 at liquor stores. A new collectable bottle will premiere each year.

Hefner's New Girlfriends

(tmz.com)- Turns out Hef's 19-year-old handpicked twin successors to the throne of Holly, Bridget and Kendra come with a checkered past. Karissa (left) and Kristina Shannon (right) -- who have recently moved into the Playboy Mansion -- were both busted by St. Petersburg, Fla. police for felony aggravated battery back in January. They both received probation and were ordered to pay restitution to the two victims.

Karissa also has a misdemeanor battery charge on her record from 2007.

UPDATE
6:40 PM PT: We just talked to a relative of one of the victims and here's what they tell us went down. The twins went out after work with one of their Wing House co-workers, Erica Civello, to a house party. Kristina allegedly started arguing with Erica, and Karissa came up behind her and hit Erica over the head with a bottle of beer and they both "jumped her." Erica suffered a concussion.

Jolie's Breastfeeding Cover
We've already seen the baby pictures — now see the photo of Angelina Jolie apparently breastfeeding on the cover of W magazine.

Jolie appears on the cover of the W's November issue in a sleeveless top, which has been opened to reveal part of her left breast and a tiny hand ostensibly belonging to one of her twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, who were born in July.

The black-and-white photo shows Jolie smiling, her long brown hair cascading over her shoulder. The cover headline promises exclusive "private photos" of the 33-year-old actress by her partner Brad Pitt.

Oops!

(baynews9.com)- As a Republican turned Obama supporter, it's no surprise Land O'Lakes resident Jim Piccillo was a good pick to introduce Vice Presidential candidate Joe Biden during today's visit to Tampa.

"It's funny, it's one of my most honored moments and one of my most embarrassing at the same time," said Piccillo.

Piccillo was not worried about stage fright. He has performed in several musicals without messing up. However, that was not the case when he went to introduce Joe Biden.

Piccillo ended his speech enthusiastically saying, "Please help me today in welcoming the next Vice President of the United States, John McCain."

He didn't even realize he had said the wrong name until he was driving home from the rally and heard them talking about the blunder on the radio.

One of USA's Greatest Streets Right Here in the Bay Area
(tampabay.com)- Home to night clubs, restaurants, storefronts and offices with historic facades, Ybor's City's Seventh Avenue has been named one of the nation's greatest streets by the American Planning Association.

Seventh Avenue was one of 10 streets honored today by the organization, which set criteria that included architectural features, accessibility, functionality and community involvement.

Mayor Pam Iorio will officially receive the award for Seventh Avenue on Nov. 12 from Tampa area resident and APA President Robert Hunter, Lacolla said. The civic association is working with the Ybor City Development Company to establish a monument to the honor.

Need Rays Tickets?
(tampabays10.com)- Last minute seats at Tropicana Field for the Rays-Red Sox game never looked so good. Behind home plate, row AA, section 103. Fans would argue some of the best seats in the house.

They're selling for $360.

The ticket office at the Trop may say sold out, but websites are telling a different story. Stubhub.com is doing big business in the final hours before the games Friday and Saturday. More...

No Rayhawks in School?
(tbo.com)- At 12 years old, Zachary Sharples is a lifelong Tampa Bay Rays fan.

"I've been a Rays fan since they started playing," he said. "I went to the second game in Rays' history with my mom. I was 2. My dad went to the first game."

His zeal for the team and the fact that they are in the playoffs for the first time got the best of him Sunday. After the Rays beat the Chicago White Sox to advance to the American League Championship Series, he, his father and his 4-year-old brother trucked to the barber shop and all got Mohawks.

That proved his undoing when he showed up for class at Lincoln Middle School in Palmetto in Manatee County on Monday: He was summarily dumped into an in-school suspension for violating the dress-code.

"I was in the gym, waiting for the bell to ring, and the principal came up to me and said we are not allowed to have mohawks in school," Zachary said today.

The principal brought him to the guidance office, and the counselor confided in Zachary that she too was a Rays fan, but that mohawks violate school policy and Zach had to pay the price.

"I had to go into something called camp," he said. "It was one room, the whole day and I couldn't do anything. I just had to sit there." More...

Cracking Down at USF Games
(tbo.com)- No more drunken behavior, offensive language or underage drinking at USF Bulls football games at Raymond James Stadium. That's what the Tampa Sports Authority and the University of South Florida said. And they meant it.

At the USF-Pittsburgh game last week, police arrested 48 people, mostly for alcohol-related offenses, such as underage drinking or disorderly conduct, said Barbara Casey, spokeswoman for the Tampa Sports Authority, which manages the stadium.

That's more than triple the number arrested at the USF-Kansas game on Sept. 12, which was bad enough to prompt the sports authority and the university to come up with ways to dampen profane and drunken behavior during Bulls games. Authorities ejected another 65 fans during the Oct. 2 game against Pittsburgh.

"We believe that each game will get better and that arrests will decline," said Andrea Davis, a Tampa police spokeswoman. "We want people to have fun, but the game has to be enjoyable for everyone." More...

Popular Home Goods Store Could Close
(tampabay.com)- Linens 'n Things, the country's second-largest housewares retailer, could fold by the end of the year.

The hedge fund that owns Linens 'n Things has asked a Delaware bankruptcy judge to put the company up for a liquidation auction.

Seven of the chain's 31 Florida stores are in the Tampa Bay area.

Stores locally already were a promotional riot of buy-one-get-one-at-50-percent-off deals and half-price clearance prices Wednesday. More...

Black Milk
(tbo.com)- State agriculture inspectors will check an Orlando dairy this week that was the source of milk that left blackish stains inside containers.

The state has received three complaints from residents about the milk, said Terry McElroy, spokesman for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which regulates dairies.

The one sample state inspectors were able to test showed the milk had gone bad. As the milk fat separated, it left the blackish stain on the container, McElroy said.

"There was no indication the product was adulterated," McElroy said.

Inspectors also found the refrigerator at the house where they tested the milk had been set too warm, allowing the milk to spoil.

Still, the department plans to send inspectors to the T.G. Lee dairy in Orlando, source of the milk in all three complaints. The milk was purchased at several grocery stores under store brand labels.

Anyone who believes they had milk turn color can call the state at 1-800-435-7352 and ask for the Food Safety or Dairy divisions. More on this story...

Husband in Hot Water
(heraldtribune.com)- A woman dumped a pot of boiling water on her husband’s groin area as he slept Wednesday morning, according to a Manatee Sheriff’s report.

Maverna T. Turay, 52, of the 600 block of 10th Avenue East, was arrested on a charge of aggravated domestic battery.

Her husband of two years, Ealy Jones Jr., sustained second-degree burns and was taken by emergency helicopter to Tampa General Hospital.

The couple was staying at a home in the 7000 block of Sixth Avenue Northwest watching Turay’s nieces and nephews, deputies reported.

Turay boiled the water as Jones slept and threw it on his groin area, the report said.

Jones ran out of the house screaming, and one of the children called 9-1-1.

Deputies reported that Turay had been drinking beer before the incident.

Neiman Marcus' Glitzy Holiday Gifts
(Reuters.com)- For the golf enthusiast who still has $1 million to spare after the Wall Street meltdown: a backyard golf course custom-designed by champ Jack Nicklaus for Christmas.

Or how about life-size Lego replicas of you and your beloved for $60,000?

Equestrians can splurge on a $10 million Kentucky horse farm, complete with a stable of up to 15 thoroughbreds. You'll get to keep all the purses and trophies you're sure to win and celebrate in your $250,000 authentic Guinness pub.

High-end retailer Neiman Marcus has put these and more luxury gifts on display in its annual holiday gift guide. The catalog traditionally features the extravagant and wacky. This year, the message may be lost in the midst of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, but the gifts on offer are no less flamboyant.

Even luxury customers, typically resilient during more moderate economic downturns, have felt the pressure of Wall Street's woes as markets tumble and their portfolios shrink.

Which begs the question, who would pay $110,000 for a chance to shoot some hoops with the Harlem Globetrotters? More...

Hugh Hefner Opens Up about Holly Madison Breakup
Hugh Hefner is down a girlfriend. Hefner and Holly Madison, one of E!'s "The Girls Next Door," are no longer dating. Hefner said he's been "down in the dumps" about the split.

"If Holly says it's over, I guess it's over," Hefner said in a telephone interview Wednesday. "She's still here in the house. Until a few days ago, we were still sharing the same bed."

Hefner was surprised to hear Madison discussing their breakup, but acknowledged he knew a split was imminent after he told Madison that they would never wed or have children.

" Hefner's relationship with his remaining two girlfriends — Marquardt, 35, and Wilkinson, 23 — may also be in flux. Hefner said Marquardt is in Europe filming the new Travel Channel series "Bridget's Beaches.” Kendra Wilkinson has also revealed that she and Hef are officially broken up as well.

Hefner said E! is interested in spin-offs with all three women.

"It's a big house," he said. "And I'm not going to live alone. I'm definitely not going to live alone

Hefner Sets Sights On Local Twins
(tampabay.com)-There's buzz all over the internet is that the latest fascination of Hugh Hefner is a pair of twins from
Tampa Bay. Kristina and Karissa Shannon (the two blonde girls in the picture) are his new objects of affection. (If you look closely you can see Hefner in the background.)

Kristina brags on her MySpace blog that she's going to be featured in a centerfold with her sister, and was moving to the Playboy Mansion on July 20th, ostensibly to be featured on The Girls Next Door. The twins are reportedly 19 and Karissa lists their hometown as our very own Clearwater.

Need Rays Tickets, Better Have Some Money!
(tbo.com)- OK, so Tampa Bay Rays playoff tickets might not be worth $20,000 each. But would you believe $19,999?

That's the price someone is asking through the online ticket broker StubHub.com for two tickets just off home plate to Game 2 of the American League Championship Series against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday.

Other asking prices on StubHub.com run as high as $10,900 for Game 6 on Oct. 18 — if that game is necessary — and $5,500 for tickets to Friday's Game 1.

Rays home ALCS tickets on TicketsNow.com, a Ticketmaster-owned reseller, go as high as $8,453 each.

The good news is that tickets at more reasonable prices are available from StubHub.com, TicketsNow.com, TicketNetwork.com, TicketLiquidator.com and other online sites for the games at Tropicana Field and Fenway Park. Some Tropicana Field tickets are being sold for as little as $102, and some in Boston for as low as $149. More...

Ladies Get Your Own Rayhawk!
(tampabays10.com)- It's the second most popular style to sweep the Rays craze.

A bikini wax. Mohawk-style.

Michelle Foster of Skin Deep Spatique in St. Petersburg says she was inspired by her son's Mohawk, "I stopped and thought about it a minute, and thought, well now everyone can have one!"

But, it's not exactly pain-friendly. Team pride comes with a little sacrifice.

Women wince. They cry. They even scream.

It's a bit of a shock to the system as hot wax is spread onto the skin with a spatula, while an aesthetician stands by with a white piece of cloth, ready to rip off the wax.

When all is said and done, women are left with a female Rayhawk.

For $30, women are walking in to Skin Deep Spatique and requesting this popular style. They call it, "the special".

Thankfully, Michelle performs the procedure in a back room where women can yell or even yelp. She tells them with a patient, all-knowing smile, "Take a deep breath. Have you ever seen the 40-year-old-Virgin?"

Michelle says the response has been crazy. She chucked and told us, "It's fun. Now us ladies have a way of participating." More...

Bus Driver Theatens Students

(msnbc.com)- Some students aboard a school bus in
Volusia County said it was a terrifying ride home for them on Monday afternoon.

The students the driver stopped the bus on some railroad tracks along International Speedway Boulevard and refused to move until the children quieted down.

During the incident, the Campbell Middle School students said a train approached them.

"I saw the train coming, and I was looking up above, and I saw the rail guard coming down, so she started to back up," student Seth Pittell said.

"But if a train is coming, their life is in danger. You're putting their lives in danger, and you're yelling at them, and you won't back up the bus? She was threatening to get off the bus and have us just sit there," student Joseph Geist said.

A parent of one of the children aboard the bus said he believes the incident could have been handled better.

"You pull of in a safe place and discipline them and turn it down. You don't try to kill the kids. You don't threaten them," parent Glen Teschner said.

Officials with Volusia County Schools said the driver has been relieved of her duties. The incident will be reviewed using videotapes from aboard the bus to help investigators learn more about what happened.

Guy Wins Lottery for the Second Time
(foxnews.com)- A Kansas man whose girlfriend was physically stuck to the toilet in their home wins $20,000 in the state Lottery — for the second time this year.

Kory McFarren of Ness City cashed in his winning $2 Bonus Crossword ticket in Great Bend Monday. On July 29, the 37-year-old McFarren received six months of probation after pleading no contest to misdemeanor mistreatment of a dependent adult.

McFarren called Ness County deputies in February to report that his girlfriend, Pam Babcock, had refused to come out of the bathroom for two years. Authorities found her stuck to the toilet.

Medical personnel estimated Babcock had been on the toilet for at least a month and said the seat had adhered to sores on her body. She was released from a Wichita hospital after several months of treatment.

Linkin Park Cancels
China Tour
Linkin Park is canceling its China tour because lead singer Chester Bennington has suffered a back injury. The band didn't say Tuesday how Bennington suffered the injury.

A statement posted on Linkin Park's official Web site said the band was canceling shows scheduled for October in Beijing, Shanghai, the central city Wuhan and the southern gambling enclave Macau. The band also canceled its show in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan.

The concerts were fundraisers for victims of May's deadly earthquake in China's Sichuan province.

Linkin Park said it will still donate to reconstruction efforts, with the promoter of its Chinese concerts, Emma Ticketmaster, also chipping in and the World Bank matching the band's contributions.

Nick Nolte Escapes Burning Home in Malibu

Nick Nolte escaped a fire that caused an estimated $1.5 million damage to his Malibu home on Tuesday, authorities said. The 67-year-old actor scraped his arm and inhaled some smoke but was not hospitalized, Los Angeles County fire Inspector Sam Padilla said.

The electrical fire started in the living room, and Nolte apparently tried to put out the fire before firefighters arrived, Padilla said.Televised reports said firefighters found Nolte outside the house with a hose but Padilla said he did not have any details. He didn't know if anyone else was in the home.

It took firefighters about 10 minutes to douse the blaze, which damaged part of the house, Padilla said. The statement also said the Fire Department estimated the damage at $3.5 million but Padilla said the estimate actually was $1.5 million.

Update: Nick Nolte thinks his printer may have sparked the fire that caused $2 million worth of damage to his house.

Nolte told neighbors he might sue the printing company.

Sexiest Woman- Esquire

(cnn.com)- Alongside a photo spread that shows her in little more than a T-shirt, Halle Berry talks about being the sexiest woman alive, a title Esquire magazine gives her in its November issue.

"I don't know exactly what it means, but being 42 and having just had a baby, I think I'll take it," says
Berry, who gave birth to her daughter, Nahla, in March.

"Sexiness is a state of mind -- a comfortable state of being," she says. "It's about loving yourself in your most unlovable moments."

But
Berry, who won an Oscar for her role in "Monster's Ball," can't claim the sexiest-woman honor all to herself.

"I share this title with every woman, because every woman is a nominee for it at any moment," she says.
